What is the Political Courage Test?

Texas Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I believe that the rates for the higher tax brackets must be adjusted. The latest round of tax cuts for the wealthy by Kevin Brady and the Republicans were unnecessary and are starving the Country of the resources needed to fund necessary programs and are causing the debt to rise. I do not believe that we should raise the taxes on the working and middle classes since that money is being injected into the economy.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Unknown Position Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
I don't believe that we need to increase defense spending at the current time.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Unknown Position Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I believe in a strong United States Department of Education that sets high national standards to promote uniform quality education across the Country.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
I believe that Medicare should be expanded for all, but that private insurance should remain as an option for those who want it and can afford it. For those private insurance policies, the provisions of the ACA should remain.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
I believe that military force may be necessary, but only as a last resort and after other diplomatic methods have been attempted.
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I do not support removing them entirely. Some tariffs/quotas are appropriate, but they must be tailored to a particular country and segment of goods.
My top priorities are expanding Medicare for all, protecting the environment with increased EPA funding and funding for renewable sources and reduced carbon emission, strengthening civil rights laws and improving public education. My background is Accounting. With only 11 members of Congress (2 in the Senate and 9 in the House), we need more Accounting experience in Washington. I intend to use my education and experience to help balance the budget and freeing up the resources to implement these needed programs.
